Kobe Bryant opened up about his dear friend, Lamar Odom, for the first time since rushing to his hospital bedside. An emotional Kobe told reporters that he’s ‘amazed’ by the progress that his former teammate has made.
Nothing comes between brothers. Kobe Bryant spoke to reporters at Lakers practice on October 27, speaking on the “remarkable” progress that Lamar Odom has made since his overdose on October 13. Kobe was one of the first to rush to Lamar’s aid, and it was a grim reminder of what can happen when the pressure becomes too much.“He’s a brother, above anything else,” Kobe told reporters at Lakers practice on October 27. “It’s important to see him back on his feet. It’s amazing to see him doing so well. It truly is remarkable.” The terrifying ordeal that Lamar has gone through has opened up Kobe’s eyes, and reminded him that there’s more to life than the NBA. “It puts things in perspective a little bit more,” Kobe told reporters. “This is what we do; this is not what we are. Basketball can get in the way of life and in the way of living.” Lamar and Kobe were teammates on the Lakers for seven seasons, and forged their close bond while playing side by side. As soon as Kobe heard about Lamar’s overdose, he rushed to his bedside, straight from a Lakers game — fortunately taking place in Las Vegas at the same time. Rapper Master P tried to claim that Kobe was doing so with ulterior motives — that he just wanted publicity, and even worse, that he could have saved Lamar! Hopefully, Lamar takes comfort in Kobe’s words knowing that basketball takes its toll on everybody.
