Talk about hell of a race, that's what I call marathon.
Over 50,000 runners started out at the 44th annual TCS New York City Marathon, but only one could walk away as the winner of the men’s race. Stanley Biwott of Kenya beat last year’s winner, Wilson Kipsang, with a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 34 seconds. Congrats, Stanley!
Last year’s champion Wilson Kipsang of Kenya came back to defend his New York City Marathon title in the big race, but was defeated by Kenya’s Stanley Biwott. This is Stanley’s first major marathon win after placing second at the London Marathon in 2014. Now that's cool.
Stanley finished the race in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 34 seconds. He only beat fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor by 14 seconds, so it was definitely a close race. Boston Marathon champion Lelisa Desisa finished in third place, and reigning NYC Marathon champ Wilson was fourth.
American and New York City favorite Meb Keflezighi made his 10th appearance in the New York City Marathon. But this time he entered the race at the age of 40, having reached that milestone birthday on May 5, 2015.
The runners joined over 50,000 other runners in the race, which kicked off on Staten Island. The race made its way through the NYC boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx before ending Manhattan’s Central Park.
The final three miles are particularly magnificent, as well as important for those who saved their best for the last moment,so as to claim the victory. In 2014, Wilson used the final moments of the course to overtake Lelisa. The course’s finale goes down the east side of Central Park on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Luckily the weather was favorable for the runners. Congratulations to Stanley.
